Frequently Asked Questions

Your Questions Answered

What is person-centred counselling

Person-centred counselling is a form of counselling that offers you the space to explore your feelings and experiences in a safe and comfortable environment. You will not be given advice or asked to complete any homework or tasks outside of the session. By allowing you to really own your feelings and work with them, you will be able to move on from past events and work towards a new future - a New Start. It can help with any issues from anxiety, depression, self-confidence, and loneliness, to relationship problems and negative thoughts.

How long is a counselling session?

A counselling session lasts for 50 minutes. Although this may seem like a long time to talk for, you'll be surprised how quickly time can pass.

How many sessions do I have to attend?

This is entirely up to you and depends on the progress that you make. A review will be carried out with you every 6 weeks to make sure both you and your counsellor still feel progress is being made, and to discuss the continuation or ending of the sessions. This is in line with the BACP's Ethical Framework.

Will counselling help me feel better?

Counselling is a process that can take time, and it depends on your commitment to engage with the process and work with your counsellor. It works best when you can build a trusting relationship and are completely open and honest, and willing to explore parts of your life that you may normally choose to shy away from. The more you are willing to give, the better the outcome is likely to be.

What qualifications do you have?

I have a level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling, which I obtained following a level 3 certificate in Counselling Skills and a level 2 certificate in Counselling Concepts.
I also have a level 2 certificate in Awareness of Mental Health Problems and a level 2 certificate in Understanding Children and Young People's Mental Health.
I have completed additional training courses in Solution Focused Brief Therapy, CBT, and Mindfulness.
I have also completed additional training enabling me to carry out the Rewind Technique which is very useful in helping with PTSD.
I regularly attend continued professional development courses to keep my skills and knowledge up to date.

Where are you based?

I am based at Condie House Business Centre, Deacon Road, Widnes, WA8 6EQ. Please note that I am on the first floor of the building and this can only be accessed via a flight of stairs.

Do you have a waiting room?

Unfortunately there isn't a waiting room so it is important that you arrive at the time of your appointment.

I am still unsure if counselling is for me

If you have any questions that I have not already covered, please feel free to send me a message through the contacts page. I am happy to answer all questions or discuss any concerns you may have, with no obligation to book an appointment.
